Music Video: Your Arms

Nigerian R&B artist TolumiDE (toe-lu-mee-day) releases a tropical new music video for her Afro-soul hit “Your Arms (Fun Mi Layo).” Nassau, Bahamas provides the perfect, colorful backdrop for the journey of love that the two main characters in the video embark on. The video follows this newly loved up couple as they dance their way around the island and share in happiness, ultimately culminating in a proposal. TolumiDE herself also makes a few appearances throughout the video finding joy on her own, dancing and exploring the beautiful island. The visuals go hand in hand with the the song’s lyrics “Fun Mi Layo,” which can be translated to “You give me joy.”

TolumiDE’s smooth vocals quietly open up the infectious love song. Backed by a bubbly, Afro-infused pop beat, she sings about the awakening feeling of finding love and accepting its pleasures and securities. There’s this sense of easy love that makes it impossible not to smile and dance along. “Your Arms” is the first glimpse of what we can expect from TolumiDE’s upcoming album Suya Soul.

New Music: Beautiful

Hi Tolu, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I am awesome, thank you for having me! I’m excited about the new song “Your Arms (Fun Mi Layo)” and am happy it’s generating some good reviews!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Your Arms (Fun Mi Layo)”?

It’s a Soul song with an African groove. I wrote it to express the feeling of being loved and being in love. I chose to sing part of the hook in Yoruba – my Nigerian native language. It sounded sweeter to sing “Fun Mi Layo,” which means “You give me joy” in Yoruba.

TolumiDE Rejoices in New Love with “Your Arms (Fun Mi Layo)”

“Your Arms (Fun Mi Layo)” is a love song that gets listeners moving to the groove and fills us with joy. Her saccharine vocals coat the track as she serenades us about the feeling of a healthy love. More often than not, we tend to be blinded by the potential of our partner. The danger in this is we mistake our idea of our love for the person with true love. Nevertheless, this proves to be false for TolumiDE. “In your arms, I’m flying like a bird / In your arms, I’m safe and secure” and honestly, what more can you ask for when it comes to love? The production attests to the easiness of real love, in the sense of it flowing freely and without inhibition.

“When I wrote “Your Arms (Fun Mi Layo)” I was feeling so happy and grateful to be a relationship where I felt genuine love. Fun Mi Layo means “you give me joy” in Yorúbá and that’s the exact sentiment I wanted to share with this single. It’s the idea of fairytale love becoming an unbelievable reality.” – TolumiDE

Dedicate this song to your partner or let it play at your cookout this summer while the sun sets. TolumiDE provides us with an outlet for love, safety and positivity. She supplies us with a new summer chune perfect for initiating a sway in our hips and butterflies in our stomachs.
